hello! "The Realm, The Realm of Darkness, World of Pitch Many names this world has been called. I traveled far and looked upon monuments and temples that are familiar but changed, or else began here and changed elsewhere for my eyes to see.... Among the pillars of glass are the gods' worshipers, beautiful and hideous or impossible to see but are felt by their breath or heard by their songs to their masters. They offer tribute in the form of each other or in great beasts captured as dictated. I asked of a god Where ends the realm? Where begins the realm? and laid sacrifice at its feet. The god answers There is no beginning. There is no end. Where the dark exists, so too does the realm. Where the dark exists, all may be seen. Here lies eternity, but for what it waits, I do not know." Excerpt from The Chronicles of Tamil (By Penumbra) |
hello! For eons measureless, another realm has laid wondering, waiting, watching over the land of the living. It is a carnivorous place, hungering ever after the life and light which other planes produce. But there is more to its madness than hunger: an intelligence dwells deep there, wisdom of grand and terrible proportions. The most wretched of all sentients is the creature claiming hierarchy in this place. A morbid queen, the entity pursues consumption, whispering seductive promises in the ears of secret seekers. From time to time, devastatingly curious souls have built an arcane bridge, lending it just enough reach to swallow cities and structures whole. When one such sorcerer heeded her call, the queen saw an opportunity to build a lasting bridge, a living bridge. A child was born, the product of profane coalition. Yet the queen, the bleakest being, would soon face the same trouble which many a deity had burdened: her flock possessed free will. While the child surely shared in her hunger for life and light, she sought not to consume, but to revel in it. She traveled to the lands of light and dwelt among their mortals. She drank of their wisdom, sought solace in their temples, and in her grew a great compassion. Rather than smother life, she created life anew. So is the story of Cenedril: mother of Pericles. Still the realm and its ruler wait, as they have waited for eternity. Their ever-reflective eyes follow their brood from beyond mirrors. ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// |
